I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize Tom Szewc for both his friendship and support over the years for my artistic endeavors. Although our paths have taken us on very different journeys and places over the years, for me, there will always be a bond forged over the times we did, and continue, to spend together… and in our individual pursuits regarding art. Never having taken formal art classes, the knowledge shared by Tom with me on painting has been very helpful in my development. Always one to encourage and push to action he also helped with construction during the creation of our attic studio space.
I still remember him calling me early one morning a long time ago when we were both living in Philadelphia… “Hey Fuz (My Nickname)… two kinds of people in the world, people who surf and people who just talk about it. Wanna get wet?” Needless to say an hour later we were on our way to the Jersey shore to put our boards into a frigid December surf. He was the surfer I was the willing apprentice. What a great morning that was. And so I adopted that saying and have used it countless times in many situations and interactions since then.
Now having been accepted as a member artist at AGA I find myself waking up saying to myself… “Hey Fuz, two kinds of people in the world… people who pursue art and”… you get it. I’m excited about all the possibilities ahead and the opportunity to make new friends and share with others in the pursuit of art and painting.
