About Me

Bill Perry

I am a retired marketing communications professional who in my earlier years worked in a number of creative services companies in Philadelphia, PA... one of which was a graphic design studio I was a founding partner of in 1980 and managed for 13 years. Before that I had worked for two large advertising agencies just at the tail end of the “Golden Era” of advertising.

Because of that I have had the great fortune of working with some very talented art directors, creative directors, writers, photographers, illustrators, graphic designers, typographers, printers and even fine artists over the years who opened up whole new worlds for me. Self- taught I have only been painting now for about 3 years, although I dabbled very sporadically with drawing, airbrush, watercolor and oil during my working years.

I'm very pleased to have just been accepted as a new member artist of the Asheville Gallery of Art and am looking forward to stretching my abilities in painting and immersing myself more into the vibrant art community here. If you're from the area or visiting from out of town I encourage you to stop by the AGA and see the great work being produced by the artists there.

Pictured above is the entrance to the studio my wife Lisa and I created over our garage in Leicester, NC. We relocated here 7 years ago from Cherry Hill, NJ. Lisa, who has a counseling practice in Asheville, is just beginning to paint and I now can enjoy her company on occasion in the studio.

Plein Air On The French Broad

This access point to the French Broad, Ledges River Park, 15 minutes from the studio, is pretty nice for plein air sessions. It's not great the way the sun travels relative to the river but the area has a parking lot and is pretty quiet during the week. There are a lot of spots to pick from that are flat and right on the river. It would be nice if the views were down the river as opposed to across it but that's the challenge.
